Why you keep giving up on expense trackers (and what works instead)

Most people quit expense trackers within a few weeks for two reasons: every purchase has to be typed, and the reward is a chart you check once a month. What sticks is the opposite. Transactions arrive on their own, and you get one number a day that tells you whether you're fine.

The three reasons people stop

  1. Typing every spend: miss a day and the data's wrong, so you give up.
  2. Categorising: sorting 80 transactions a month feels like homework.
  3. No payoff today: charts look back. They don't help you decide what to do right now.

What works instead

  • Automatic capture from your bank's alerts or a bank connection.
  • Auto categories you only correct now and then.
  • One daily number: what's safe to spend today.
  • A glance, not a session: a home-screen widget beats opening an app.

Where Savyit fits

Savyit reads the payment alerts your bank already sends to your Android phone (bank-app notifications everywhere; bank SMS and UPI alerts in India), so there's nothing to type and no bank login. Categories are filled in for you, the daily "safe to spend" number sits on the home screen and in a widget, and there's nothing to type except cash.

What it can't do

  • Android only. There's no iPhone version.
  • It only sees what your bank tells you. Turn on alerts for every transaction in your bank's app.
  • Cash isn't in any alert. Add it with quick entry or the widget.
  • No bank sync and no CSV import. It starts from new alerts (in India it can also scan recent bank SMS).

Questions

Is there a less tedious way to track spending?

Yes: use something that captures transactions on its own, from bank alerts or a bank connection, and check one daily number instead of reviewing charts.

How long does it take to build a tracking habit?

If capture is automatic, there's no habit to build: you only glance at the number.

Do I need to categorise everything?

No. Let the app auto-categorise and fix only the ones that are wrong.
